I am about 5'11'' and weigh 145 lbs. I feel extremely underweight and unhealthy at the weight I am at now. I asked the doctor today what i can take, and he told me just to lift weights and eat more protein and take protein shakes. Problem is, I was 175 back in high school and did all of that stuff and it was extremely demanding, especially now if i have to do it all over again. I asked if he could prescribe a medication that would add about 15-20 lbs, but he said i am fine metabolically and he refused to do it.

Please share advice on what I should do to gain about 15-20 lbs, or if i should just find a new doctor that would prescribe a weight gain prescription. Im sure there is something on the market that would do the trick prescription wise.

For the wiseguys, spare the smart remarks, please only reply if you are trying to help.

Thank You.

I would assume you can only gain muscle or fat. If you want to get fat thats easy I mastered it in no time. Chinese food and beer. Ice cream will help too. If you want to gain muscle well I guess you have to hit the weights and triple your protein intake. Chicken, steak, or at least a shake a day. Trust me id rather have your problem.

Denny: First of all, thanks for the reply. I was an athlete in high school and in top notch shape. Now im just skinny. In high school, i popped about 3-4 diff types of supplements at one time, from protein to creatine and even testosterone such as M1T before it was banned. Trust me, i have drink a good amount of beers, but i cant even keep THAT weight. Also, you dont want my underweight problem either.

if it really bothers you than I would get a second opinion from another doctor. I have friends that can eat anything and are very skinny. Maybe just have a weight gainer shake or two a day and see if that puts on a couple lbs.

Being a hard gainer is not the worst problem to have, but it can be just as frustrating as being a person trying to lose weight. I'm very lean and always have to work to keep weight on. I workout 5 days a week and have an extremely high metabolism. 6' and about 183.

I would guess you have pretty bad eating habits. For example, eating only three times a day, not eating breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up in the morning, going to bed hungry (or not full), eating fast food (very little nutrition).

What I would recommend is adding weightgainer to your diet as well as a very strong effort on your part not to longer than 2-3 hours without eating something. Even if you make 3-4 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take to work to eat every so often. The key is to never be hungry. Never go to bed hungry and never workout hungry.

Also dont drink the weightgainer as a meal...drink it after a meal. The point of weightgainer is EXTRA calories.

Keep yourself stuffed and the pounds will come. GL

Do it naturally with increased protein intake and lifting. Trust me, you will hate yourself if you put stupid shit into your body and you fuck up your metabolism or something. Just put the work in and eat protein all the time. You will appreciate the outcome and you will be much healthier than if you took shortcuts.

What 3100 Calories or something? Really should be eating more, especially protein. You are gonna have to eat even when you don't want to.

Dave: not sure the caloric intake with my current diet. When i was charting when i was in high school i'd consume 4000 plus calories per day. This was actually the lightest of meal schedule of the week so far for me, just didnt have time to prepare anything this day.

Slept in this a.m. and missed class, so far have eaten breakfast: 2 waffles, oreos and milk, protein shake. Bad breakfast, will try to improve throughout the day even though i have to work later on. Id say Im getting around 3500 calories per day currently. Before I started this diet and training I was consuming roughly 1500 per day only!

It's enough food - if you stick to that you will put on some weight slowly - obviously, you have a killer metabolism - keep to this for a year - and the lifting too - if you have not put on 15 pounds I'll tell you exactly what to do.

Anyways, go to elitefitness and post there - they will help you.

Went out last night and drank a few beers and hung out with some friends. Only ate 4 meals, but they were all pretty solid. Started my day this a.m. with a big breakfast of 3 scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, hash browns, and 5 alive as my drink. Couple other guys i live with are sick, and i woke up this a.m. with a sore throat from drainage from my sinus. Hope this goes away quickly today, cant afford to get sick and not eat and not lift right now. Feel like Im getting bigger after one week as im eating so much damn food, sometimes i even feel like i will throw it up.
